Places to Visit

Our own town of Civray, about 5mins, away boasts the oldest church in France, 12th century in origin, an architectural masterpiece and well worth a visit.

Civray has all the amenities needed for your stay and holds a twice-weekly market to get you in the mood for French living. We have a supermarket 2 mins from the town centre.

Cognac (1 hour) and Bordeaux (2 hours) are both well worth a day trip as well as a visit to the old port of La Rochelle, with superb shops and restaurants with speciality fish, it is a beautiful seaside town.

Confolens, a medieval town of historical interest, is approx 30 mins from Gites du Marigné.

Valley of the Monkeys is a great day out for the family, about 35mins from Gites du Marigné.

Futuroscope, futuristic theme park located at Poitiers, another fun day out for families, or the grown ups who are still kids at heart!

Angouleme and Poitiers - fascinating cities both with fabulous cathedrals and architecture and lots of shops to make you part with your euros!

This area of France is perfect for cycling, fishing, walks and bird watching.
